Legacy Funds & Giving

Legacy funds, also known as endowment or planned giving funds, are financial gifts that individuals leave to a charitable organization, foundation, or institution as part of their estate plan. These funds are typically invested to generate ongoing income, providing a perpetual source of funding to support the organization’s mission or specific causes designated by the donor. Legacy funds allow individuals to create a lasting impact by ensuring their charitable intentions continue to be fulfilled long after their lifetime.

Leave a Lasting Legacy with the Lodi Community Foundation

Plan now, give later. A Legacy Fund with Lodi Community Foundation (LCF) lets you create a charitable legacy that will continue to support the causes, nonprofits, and community needs that matter most to you—long after your lifetime.

We work closely with you and your estate planner to design a fund that reflects your values, honors your wishes, and strengthens the Lodi area for generations to come. Your gift will be professionally managed in perpetuity and stewarded by a trusted, local philanthropic partner who understands the needs of our community.

Legacy Fund Details

Why Leave a Legacy with LCF?
  • Your values, preserved forever – Your Legacy Fund will reflect your philanthropic priorities and ensure they are honored faithfully.
  • Local stewardship you can trust – LCF is rooted in the Lodi community, with deep relationships and knowledge of the charitable sector.
  • Professional investment management – Your assets will be managed prudently, with oversight from our experienced Board of Directors.
  • Enduring community impact – Grants from your fund will support local causes and nonprofits every year—forever.
  • A trusted partner for your family – Donors trust LCF to uphold their legacy and steward their charitable intent with care and transparency.
How it Works
  1. We collaborate on your fund agreement – Together, we’ll outline exactly how you want your Legacy Fund to operate.
  2. You include LCF in your estate plan – We provide sample language to share with your attorney or estate planner.
  3. Your fund is established after your lifetime – Assets from your estate, securities, property, or a percentage, are transferred to LCF.
  4. Your fund makes grants every year – We award grants to the causes and organizations you’ve chosen.
Creative Giving Options

Your professional advisor knows your financial situation best. We can work together to explore gift planning tools such as:

  • Life Income Gifts – A charitable remainder trust can provide income to beneficiaries during their lifetime, with the remainder creating your Legacy Fund.
  • IRAs – Designating your LCF Legacy Fund as the beneficiary of your retirement account can avoid heavy estate and income taxes.
  • Insurance Policies – Name your Legacy Fund as a beneficiary, or transfer the policy to LCF for potential charitable deductions on future premiums.
Ways to Structure Your Gift
  • General Bequest – A specific dollar amount.
  • Specific Bequest – A particular asset, such as real estate or personal property.
  • Residuary Bequest – A gift from the remainder of your estate after all other distributions.
  • Demonstrative Bequest – A gift from a specific source (e.g., “$10,000 from my Vanguard account”)
  • Percentage Bequest – A percentage of your total estate or the residual estate.
Bequesting your Will or Trust

If you wish to include LCF in your estate plan, share this sample language with your attorney:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Lodi Community Foundation, Inc., federal tax identification number 81-4691752, with the mailing address of P.O. Box 1327, Lodi, CA 95241, in the sum of $____ [or describe the portion of the estate] to be used for its work supporting Lodi and its surrounding areas as directed by the Lodi Community Foundation Board of Directors.”
